Finding Joy During the Holiday Rush
Yes holidays are here. Halloween is over and the great, crazy rush toward Christmas has officially begun. You know the one—the endless shopping, the frantic decorating, the packed calendar of parties and gatherings. It can all feel like too much, too soon.
So how do you cope? My latest habit for staying healthy and centered comes from a rather unlikely place. If you know me, you know I don’t go for “ra ra,” “you go girl” self-help preaching. I don’t want to read a long, drawn-out book about how to improve my life. Self-help books are great if that’s your thing, but I usually get tired of reading them and never finish.
That’s why I was so surprised to find myself using an app developed by Hoda Kotb. Let’s be honest, I’ve always found her to be a bit obnoxiously cheerful. The app, JOY 101, offers daily practices for joyful living. It sounds a little “ra ra,” right? But it works.
How the JOY 101 App works
The app has curated videos from experts across various fields. You can pick the areas that are important to you, like:
- Fitness
- Health
- Meditation
- Mental health
- Spirituality
Every day, you get a quick, easy-to-digest video clip—each lasting about two to eight minutes—from each of your chosen areas. This makes it simple to incorporate into your daily routine.
My list of daily tips might include a quick morning yoga flow, a soundscape for better sleep, breathing exercises, or a healing prayer. It all starts with a daily message from Hoda.
My joyful tip for you
So, that’s my personal joyful tip. If a daily dose of a little joy is what you need this season, check out the Joy101 app. You can also follow Joy101 on social media, but I’ve found the content on the app to be more enriching.
(Note: I am not receiving any compensation from Hoda for this recommendation.)
Wishing you a joyful Thanksgiving filled with family, love, and laughter!
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. —Proverbs 17:22
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. —Psalm 118:24
With love and joy,
Laura
