Give me a head with Hair!

Give me a Head with Hair...long beautiful hair
Chemo hair loss & other stuff...

Give me a head with Hair….Long beautiful hair….Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen waxen! “Hair” 1969, the Cowsills

In my teen years, growing up in St Louis, MO with brutal humidity,  I struggled & fought to have straight beautiful hair.  I had curly, crazy hair that no amount of product or large rollers could tame.  Of course, the style back then, was straight hair with feathered bangs.  Bummer.

When I moved to California my hair got a whole new life — yay, no humidity!  I can style my hair any way I want & it will be gorgeous! Honestly, it was one of the best things about moving to Cali!  No more hair wars!

As I’ve reached a certain age, I stopped coloring/highlighting my hair and went with my natural color and an asymmetrical style that seems to flatter me.  I say that because, often people will stop & tell me how much they like my hair.  Perfect strangers.  Even men.  Twice, recently my husband has been shopping with me when this has happened.  Once, a woman even asked if she could take my picture to give to her stylist.  I’ve come a long way from those teen years!

Most recently, I was standing outside of Costco, and a woman walked by and told me that I was beautiful and she loved my hair!    I felt so great!  It was like a big hug…and then, 2 days later, my hair started falling out.

On our way out of town, for a respite, I noticed my hair falling off my head — sort of like the needles falling off of Charlie Brown’s christmas tree.

On our  drive to Sonoma Coast/Sea Ranch — my hair began the journey to shed & fall.  I was hoping this part of the process would somehow skip me – or at least, not show up for a while longer.  Fortunately,  I had plenty of cozy hats with me to cover my quickly thinning head of hair.

Jon & I were blessed with the use of a friend’s home in beautiful Sea Ranch this past week.  It was an amazing glorious time– filled with beautiful scenery, wonderful family moments, & quiet relaxing solitude.   We are incredibly grateful for this gift from a very special friend.

Upon our return, I paid a visit to my hair dresser, who tried his best to make something out of my balding head.  I had my 2nd chemo treatment (2 down, 2 more to go).  I continue to feel good and am managing well.   Eating nutritious food, moderate exercise, staying busy.  Along with tons of self-care:

  • Chats with friends..near & far
  • Walks & talks & long hugs
  • Time to relax
  • Getting a pass on extra housework and cooking!

And now, it’s time to find some new Hats!!  I wonder if I’ll get any compliments?

For the beauty, the splendor, and the wonder of my Hair!

Flow it, show it…Long as God can grow it, my Hair!  (it will come back!)

Totally feel your pain!!! I think the hair loss was the toughest emotional part for me (side effects wise) By the way… you still look AMAZING! You have always had such great style and hair or no hair you still do. BUT, If you are wanting info on cranial prosthesis’s (lol aka wigs! 🤦🏼‍♀️) let me know!!! I can hook you up with a great salon.

    Love you always!

I say try a nice wig and take on a new attitude, why not try it out! Wigs are in right now! Loss of hair doesn’t take away from your beautiful soul! You got this!

Yes— I have a very cute wig. It will take some time getting used to it. feels kinda awkward. hats are easier to plop on and go for now.

    Laura,
I remember the time we spent attempting to get our hair to conform to the “Marsha Brady look”! You are in my daily prayers for healing, comfort, and encouragement.
    Much love,
    Ann

You are beautiful because your heart says so, no matter what your hairstyle! Now, let’s ZHUZH you up because accessories are a girl’s best friend. It’s L-squared shopping time, don’t you think??
